Mohini Dey clarifies baseless dating rumours with AR Rahman

In her video, Mohini stated, “I have been fortunate to have several father figures and role models in my life who have played essential roles in my upbringing. AR, or AR Rahman, is one of them. I hold him in high regard and consider him like a father. Interestingly, he is slightly younger than my dad, and his daughter is around my age. We share a deep respect and love for one another.”

Reflecting on her journey, she added, “I was part of his band for eight and a half years until I moved to the US five years ago to work with other artists. I also have my own band and music projects that I tour with. In light of everything, I kindly ask everyone to respect our privacy. This is a personal and painful matter, so please be compassionate.”

Mohini Dey calls AR Rahman a father-like person

Accompanying the video, Mohini expressed her dismay about the false narratives surrounding her and Rahman. She wrote, “It’s shocking to witness the extent of misinformation and unfounded claims being made about us. It feels wrong for the media to sensationalize our personal situations. I cherish my time working with AR Rahman during those eight and a half years, and it saddens me to see the lack of respect and empathy for such sensitive issues. AR is a legend and like a father to me.”

Mohini acknowledged several influential figures in her life, including her father, who passed away a year ago, as well as Ranjit Barot and Louiz Banks, who have been instrumental in her career. She emphasized the need for understanding, saying, “The media and paparazzi often overlook the impact their actions have on people’s lives. While I do not owe anyone an explanation, I wish to prevent any false narratives from escalating and disrupting my life. Please respect our privacy.”

The recent rumours surfaced following Rahman’s announcement of his separation from his wife, Saira Banu, and Mohini’s own announcement of her split from her husband, Mark Hartsuch, on Instagram. In her statement, she requested kindness and support, saying, “We appreciate all the support we’ve received. Please honour our decision by being positive and respecting our privacy without judgment.”

Mohini has collaborated with Rahman in over 40 shows worldwide and has also performed with renowned artists like Zakir Hussain, Sivamani, Steve Vai, and Marco Minnemann, among others.
